Here at National Energy Direct, we understand that knowing where to start when arranging a new water connection for a commercial premises can be daunting. That's why we are going to discuss the key steps in the process, and a few tips to make things as easy as possible for you.

What Is A Water Connection?

A water connection is the point in which a water service line is connected to the mains of a property or premises, thereby allowing water to flow from the area’s supply source to an individual premises.

Things to Consider Before Arranging a New Water Connection

The first thing to note before applying for a utility connection (if the premises is a new build project) is to make sure you have obtained planning permission for the project itself.

Without getting the go ahead on any building plans, any requests for a new connection to a water source is pointless. Research and due diligence regarding any project must be carried out in the planning phase prior in order to avoid wasted costs.

A New Water Connection

Existing Main Connection

If the commercial premises requiring a new connection are close to an existing water main that’s in use, you can request your local water company or a qualified utility connections provider to make a new connection point.

At National Energy Direct we are fully Water Industry Registration Scheme (WIRS) accredited and can provide water network design as well as infrastructure installation and construction.

We don’t need clearance to work on behalf of any of the 22 separate water companies due to our extensive qualifications and experience, saving you time and money.

You’ll need to provide us with the following information:

Once any updates are processed/all plans are finalised and have been granted permission from the appropriate authorities, we can provide a more accurate time scale and pricing for the project.

We will lay a service (or communication) pipe from the boundary of the new property to the nearest active water main, and install the correct infrastructure within the property premises.

New Main Connection

If there is no close active water main to the property, a new main may need to be constructed or an existing main may need to be extended; this is called a water mains requisition.

You may also want to ask for a new water supply connection for a property that is already currently receiving a water supply. This could be because you are renewing a water supply connection or separating a supply pipe.

Post Installation

Once the project is complete in terms of water network infrastructure we will carry out all relevant safety and efficiency checks including a pressure test and chlorination’s.
