At National Energy Direct, we deliver a range of utility solutions for residential, commercial and industrial properties/developments, including the installation of new electricity, gas and water mains. In this guide, we will be explaining how utility installation works, and all of the precautions we take in order to uphold the highest levels of safety and ensure industry standards are maintained.
At National Energy Direct, we understand the complications involved with electricity, gas and water services. Each project is unique, which is why we work to deliver a straightforward approach that is tailored to your project’s specific requirements.
When planning the installation of utility connections for new build homes, we work with your project contractor to ensure we arrange the installation at the appropriate stage of your building process. Our team of professionals then work to suit your budget and complete the work to a strict deadline, avoiding any unnecessary delays in your building timeline.
In order to apply for new connections, you must provide us with the correct necessary information so we can submit an application to the Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) as soon as possible to prevent any delays in the process.
You’ll need to provide us with:
The property or site’s full address. If you are installing electricity connections for new builds then you must provide the name of the site so it can be identified prior to the registration.
A CAD/planning drawing of the property.
Which services you require: electricity, water and/or gas.
The time it takes to complete new electricity, gas and water connections depends on several factors that must be assessed, but on average you can expect the installation to take anywhere between 6-12 weeks. It’s important, however, to remember that these are just rough estimates and that your project may take longer depending on factors such as:
The time it takes to apply for, and be granted a permit to excavate on public ground.
Where the point of connection is located.
Once the necessary information is gathered, we will design the electric, gas and water connection plan and produce a CAD drawing of the design for you to either approve, or suggest alterations. From this point, we will then liaise with you and the local council about the legalities of the work and when all has been settled, the design will be sent to the DNOs for approval.
Once everything has been approved and finalised, we’ll be able to schedule the work and provide you with an accurate timescale for the project.
As part of our service here at National Energy Direct, we will source an energy provider on your behalf. Once the work is complete, it is then up to you if you wish to source an alternative provider.
