If you’re in the process of developing new domestic, commercial and industrial properties, you’ll need to know how to apply for new utility connections to ensure your buildings are supplied with gas, water and electricity.
Whether you’re building your own home or planning a housing/commercial development, keep on reading to find out how to apply for new utility connections with National Energy Direct.
Before applying for a new utility connection, it is important for you to have obtained planning permission for your project. This is because a lot of time will go into the designing of your connections and if your plans end up having to be changed due to denied planning permission, this may all have to be done again, costing you lots of time and money.
Once you have planning permission granted, to apply with National Energy Direct for a new utility connection, you'll need to provide us with some necessary information so e can submit an application to the Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) as they are responsible for the distribution of electricity from the national grid to your home or business.
By arranging this connection sooner rather than later, you can make sure your plans are approved well in advance to prevent any delays later down the line.
You’ll need to provide us with the following information:
The property or site’s full address. If you are installing utility connections for new builds then you must provide the name of the site so it can be identified prior to the registration.
A CAD/planning drawing of the property.
Which services you require: individual electricity, water or gas connections or all three.
Once we have gathered all of the necessary information, we will work on designing your gas, water and electricity connection plans and produce a CAD drawing. We will then show and explain these to you for your approval and can make alterations where possible to ensure you’re fully satisfied with the network design.
With any alterations made and your full approval, we will then go on to liaise with you and the local council about the legality of the work before sending it off to the DNOs for approval.
When everything has been approved and finalised, we will then schedule in the work with you and can offer a more accurate timescale for the entire project.
